You Don’t Have to be Smart or Even Sane to Listen to Classical Music — Part #2

I have obscured her name for obvious reasons.  She hand-delivered this, so she knows where we are.

    Rick-

I have read your recent blogs. The last, regarding the WP reviewer may be on to something. I’ll admit I just gave a quick read, but that is because the plight of contemporary classical music really does not concern me- but wait, perhaps that is the point?

I listen to lots of music and occasionally I find something that really moves me. A few years ago it was Native American Rock, then it was crooner Irena Santor, then Madreus. The fact is nothing that I have encountered in the world of classical music excits me. Some I find appalling (to this day I remain irritated that Shostakovitch never succeeded in pissing Stalin off).

I have only a modest education and I am not well schooled in serious Western culture. However, I respond enthusiastically to music that I like and I don’t recall being excited by anything I have heard in classical music in many years.
